Freight traffic growth continues – air pollution from road traffic overall declining - Outlook up to 2030

Bern, 03.09.2004 - Freight traffic on Switzerland’s roads and railways will continue to expand over the next 30 years. Growth on the railways will outstrip that on the roads. Meanwhile, air pollution from road traffic overall will continue to decline, albeit more slowly than previously thought. Further action needs to be taken until the air is clean, however. These are the findings of two expert studies published by the Swiss Department for the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC).
