New manual for the economic assessment of environmental policy
Bern, 13.04.2007 - Since the beginning of 2007 the FOEN has been checking the economic effects of all new environmental policy measures. In this way environmental policy should be as effective and efficient as possible.
The FOEN has developed a manual for this economic assessment (VOBU). This manual serves among other things as guidance for the evaluation of measures and objectives in environmental policy.
By means of this action the FOEN intends to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of environmental policy measures. At the same time, the usefulness of environmental protection for the economy should be apparent.
The FOEN had already been analysing the economic effects of environmental measures. What is new is that since the beginning of 2007 the VOBU instrument is being used in a systematic, uniform way throughout the FOEN for all new measures at the levels of ordinances, laws and the Federal Constitution.
The VOBU manual corresponds to the guidelines of the federal Regulatory Impact Assessment.
