Media Invitation on Informal WTO-Ministerial Meeting in Geneva

Bern, 16.07.2008 - Ministers in charge of WTO matters from over 30 countries will gather in Geneva as of 21 July 2008. The aim of the meeting is to take key decisions on the Doha Round, in particular on agriculture and on non-agricultural goods, as well as to pave the way for results in the other areas of negotiations.

A well functionning multilateral trading system is vital for Switzerland with its strong export economy. Switzerland is committed to a successful conclusion of the Doha Round. In the coming days, Switzerland strives for a broader result than only one in agriculture and industrial goods. For Switzerland in particular services and geographical indications (GI's) are of high importance too.
