Statistics on tourist accommodation in May 2015 – Slight fall in overnight stays in May

Neuchâtel, 03.07.2015 - (FSO) The Swiss hotel industry registered 2.6 million overnight stays in May 2015, which corresponds to a decrease of 0.4% (-9500 overnight stays) compared with May 2014. Domestic visitors registered 1.1 million overnight stays, i.e. a decline of 1.6% (-17,000 overnight stays). Foreign visitors recorded 1.5 million overnight stays, representing an increase of 0.5% (+7500 overnight stays). In 2015, Whitsun fell in the month of May and in 2014 in June. Therefore the results for both May and June should be taken into account in order to neutralize the effect of Whitsun. These are the provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
