Terror alert in Geneva: Second criminal proceeding opened

Bern, 12.12.2015 - The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG), with the support of the Federal Office of Police fepol, has opened a second criminal proceeding concerning a Terror alert in the area of greater Geneva. In this regard, two individuals have been arrested.

Criminal proceeding has been opened on 12 December 2015 against two individuals from a Syrian provenance on suspicion of Manufacture, concealment and transport of explosives and toxic gases (Art. 226 Swiss Criminal Code) as well as on suspicion of violation of Article 2 of the Federal Law of the prohibition of groups like Al Qaida, Islamic State and similar organizations. The two persons have been arrested 11. December 2015 in the area of greater Geneva.

The OAG, with the Support of Fedpol is working closely with the Department of security and economy of the Canton of Geneva as well as the police forces of the Canton of Geneva. Therefore, the Attorney General of Switzerland, responsible for criminal proceedings related to Terrorism, is in close and constant contact with Mr. Pierre Maudet, state councillor in charge of the department of security and economy of the State of Geneva. Top priority and common goal is the prevention of terror activities.
