Working visit of Federal Councillor Leuthard in London to focus on energy and the climate

Bern, 04.02.2016 - Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard will make a two-day working visit to London from 10 to 11 February 2016. A meeting is planned with Amber Rudd, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate of the United Kingdom, to discuss current questions in the field of energy and climate policy. The Head of DETEC will also open Cleantech Innovate 2016, in which six Swiss companies will present their technological innovations to more than 320 investors and representatives of the financial and political sectors.

Discussions with Robert Goodwill, Minister of State at the Department for Transport, are also foreseen. Federal Councillor Leuthard will meet the six Swiss finalists at Cleantech Innovate 2016. The finalists belong to the Swiss Cleantech Delegation led by Walter Steinman, Director of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy. The delegation will meet the Deputy Mayor of London, who is responsible for environmental and energy questions, as well as numerous British stakeholders in the cleantech field.

Britain is confronted with the challenge of achieving greater energy efficiency in buildings and reducing CO2 emissions. Against this background the British market offers great potential to Swiss cleantech companies.

For the past three years Cleantech Innovate has showcased the best innovations in the cleantech field from the United Kingdom, Ireland and in 2016 from Switzerland. Start-ups and companies with promising innovations may apply to participate in any of the four categories: renewable energy, energy management, cross-sectoral innovation (transport, agriculture, and green buildings) and resource efficiency. One hundred and sixty three companies applied to participate in this year’s Cleantech Innovate and 36 finalists have been chosen to attend on 11 Feb-ruary 2016, among them six Swiss companies: ABB Secheron SA, Airlight Energy, Bluetector, Climeworks, Designergy SA, InnovaRadio SA.
