Switzerland is ready for "Kyoto"

(Last modification 01.12.2006)

Bern, 08.11.2006 - To comply with its obligation under the Kyoto Protocol, Switzerland may emit up to a maximum of 242.65m tonnes of CO2 equivalents between 2008 and 2012. This figure corresponds to the reduction, agreed in Kyoto in 1997, in Swiss greenhouse gas emissions, i.e. 8% of the 1990 level. The Federal Council has today approved the report that states, with regard to the Climate Convention, that Switzerland has met the formal requirements for the implementation of its Kyoto obligation.
