WTO-Ministers ready to build on the Bali success

Davos, 25.01.2014 - At the invitation of Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, Ministers present in Davos in charge of WTO affairs as well as WTO Director General Roberto Azevêdo met in Davos, Switzerland, today. The purpose of the meeting was to initiate a dialogue on how to build on the success of the 9th WTO Ministerial Conference in Bali.

At the meeting Ministers acknowledged the outcome at the 9th Ministerial WTO Conference in Bali last December and stressed the importance of implementing swiftly the decisions taken in the coming months. The discussion then focussed on the continuation of the work in the WTO.

Ministers expressed their views on how to prepare a clearly defined work programme on the Doha Development Agenda issues that have not been solved at the Bali Ministerial Conference.

Ministers agreed that the positive momentum from the decisions taken in Bali should be seized and the process towards elaborating a future balanced work program should be based on realism, pragmatism and the principles of transparency and inclusiveness.
