For many years Switzerland has also been engaged in animal welfare on the international stage and has collaborated in the formulation of international recommendations. Reptile leather plays a major role in the international trade of the Swiss watch and luxury goods industry. But to this day there is still no internationally recognised standard that provides recommendations for the killing of reptiles in a humane way that takes animal welfare needs into account. Led by the Federal Veterinary Office, an international group of experts has elaborated a set of recommendations for international regulation of the methods used for killing these animals.

(FSO) - The educational level of women and men is trending towards equality while career and study choices remain gender-specific. The economic activity rate of women has risen considerably, in particular through part-time work. However the share of managerial and supervisory positions held by women has stagnated at around a third. Men are more likely to be victims of violence in the public sphere; women on the other hand suffer more from domestic violence. These are findings from the Federal Statistical Office's (FSO) gender equality indicators, which enable an evaluation of the situation in Switzerland in view of International Women's Day on 8 March.
