Switzerland assumes presidency of the Intra-European Organisation of Tax Administrations

Bern, 09.07.2012 - The General Assembly of the Intra-European Organisation of Tax Administrations (IOTA) in Oslo has transferred the presidency for the 2012/2013 term of office to Switzerland. This function will be carried out by Samuel Tanner, the ad interim Director of the Federal Tax Administration (FTA), who for several years has already represented Switzerland on the management board of the organisation and who will, with immediate effect, lead the board up until the next General Assembly.

The FTA has been a member of IOTA since 2006 and since 2010 has been one of in all nine board members. Previously Switzerland was already on the board from 2006 to 2009. The board takes decisions mainly to do with the strategic thrust of the organisation and work and training programmes.

IOTA with its headquarters in Budapest was founded in October 1996. It currently has 46 members, which include the national tax authorities of all the countries in the European Union (EU). IOTA's purpose is to provide the tax administrations in Europe with a discussion forum for tax questions. The focus is on improving and promoting technical cooperation between the member states and the formulation and application of so-called "best practices".
