Fully revised English translation of the Federal Constitution

Bern, 08.09.2008 - The Federal Chancellery has today published a fully revised English translation of the Federal Constitution. This complements the available offering in the national languages and also responds to growing demand. The English version can conveniently be downloaded from the website of the Federal Authorities (www.admin.ch) as a PDF file or be viewed in HTML format.

The revised translation of the Federal Constitution, which was submitted to external experts and to the Federal Office of Justice for review before publication, is part of an ongoing Federal Chancellery project to make selected Swiss legislation available to the public in Romansh and English.

These English and Romansh translations of official texts are published according to the structure of the Classified Compilation of Federal Legislation, thereby allowing users to refer to the corresponding law or ordinance in the official languages more easily. The texts can be downloaded as PDF files or be viewed in HTML format.

While the current selection of English texts is relatively small, new translations will regularly be added to the compilation, which will eventually also include important public and private law texts. As English is not an official language of the Swiss Confederation these translations are provided for information purposes only and have no legal force. There are no plans to translate all Swiss legislation into English.

English translations of Swiss legislation can be found at the following address:
