Switzerland welcomes the release of soldier Gilad Shalit
Bern, 18.10.2011 - The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA welcomes the release of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit following an agreement between the Israeli authorities and Hamas. Switzerland was in favour of this agreement and urged both parties repeatedly to comply with their obligations in international humanitarian law.
The FDFA hopes that this agreement, by which several hundred Palestinian prisoners will be released, will enable to create more dialogue. The FDFA calls for normalisation of the movement of persons and goods between Gaza and Israel, in particular by granting authorisations once again for family visits to Palestinians from Gaza who are in prison in Israel.
