Family and student life 2009: Analysis report on the social situation of students – Students rarely have children

Neuchâtel, 12.07.2012 - (FSO) - 4.8% of students at higher education institutions in Switzerland have children. In comparison with other European countries this proportion is rather low. Students with children are subject to greater time pressure, which has an effect on their studies. They are less likely than students without children to undertake a Masters degree or an academic stay in another higher education institution. This and other aspects of the reconciliation of student and family life are shown in a new publication from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
