Statistics on tourist accommodation in June and the first half of 2012 – Decrease in overnight stays in June and the first half of 2012
Neuchâtel, 06.08.2012 - (FSO) - According to provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), the Swiss hotel industry registered 3.1 million overnight stays in June 2012. This corresponds to a decrease of 5.5% (-183,000 overnight stays) compared with June 2011. Domestic visitors registered 1.3 million overnight stays, i.e. a drop of 5.6% (-76,000 overnight stays). Foreign visitors generated 1.8 million overnight stays, which represents a decline of 5.5% (-107,000 overnight stays). To neutralise the effect of the Ascension and Pentecost holidays (in June in 2011 and in May in 2012), it is necessary to cumulate the results from May and June. Thus, 5.7 million overnight stays were registered during these two months, which corresponds to a decrease of 2.9% (-168,000 overnight stays) compared with the same months in 2011. Domestic visitors registered a drop of 1.8% (-42,000 overnight stays) and foreign visitors a decline of 3.6% (-126,000 overnight stays).
