Working visit of President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf to Ireland

Bern, 23.10.2012 - On 25 October 2012, President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf will travel on an official working visit to Ireland. On the agenda will be a courtesy call to the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, and a meeting with the Taoiseach (the Irish Prime Minister), Enda Kenny, and the Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan.

Aside from bilateral relations between Switzerland and Ireland, the euro crisis and European policy in particular will be discussed during the meetings. President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf will explain to her hosts the latest Swiss proposals to the EU concerning institutional issues, amongst other things, and will be informed about Ireland's priorities for the EU presidency in 2013.

In addition, it is envisaged that there will be an exchange on the chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), held by Ireland in 2012 and which Switzerland will take over in 2014. Moreover, the visit will be devoted to a discussion on various financial and tax issues, with President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf raising topics such as financial market regulation, the imminent corporate tax reform and the international withholding tax agreements.
