The Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina on a working visit to Switzerland

Bern, 14.05.2013 - The Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina will make a four-day working visit to Switzerland from 14 to 17 May 2013. It will get to know Switzerland's federal model as an inspiration for constitutional reform and the future-oriented political development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia's current administrative and legal system is complex and hampers the country's European integration. The aim of the discussions and exchange of experiences with Swiss officials is to gain insight into how constitutional problems can be tackled in a multicultural society. A range of topics will be explored, including individual and collective rights (unity in diversity), cooperation between the Confederation and the cantons, and the representation of the cantons and minorities.

During its visit, the Committee will meet with Federal Chancellor Corina Casanova and become acquainted with key political institutions, including the Federal Chancellery, the Parliament and the House of Cantons. Meetings with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council of States, the President of the National Council, and representatives of the cantons are also scheduled.

This visit is part of a project by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation to support constitutional reform in Bosnia and Herzegovina and assist Bosnian efforts to find solutions. Constitutional reform is crucial for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is why Switzerland is committed to making a pragmatic contribution.
