Geoportal of the Swiss Confederation distinguished with Geospatial World Award 2013

Bern, 16.05.2013 - geo.admin.ch, the geoportal of the Swiss Confederation received on Mai 16th 2013 at Geospatial World Forum 2013 in Rotterdam the «Geospatial Policy Implementation Award». The distinction is issued by the Geospatial World Magazine and recognizes policy implementations which directly impacts development of geospatial science, technology and business.

The citation for the prize saw Geospatial World Magazine praise the promotion by geo.admin.ch of research, development and implementation in spatial data infrastructures. The implementation of the federal geoinformation strategy is hereby acknowledged as epoch making project. Key factors were systematic use of open source software, open standards and cloud computing. The award was given on the suggestion of an international committee of experts made up of personalities from the fields of geodata and geo-IT.

A priorized project of eGovernment Switzerland

geo.admin.ch is a high priority project of the Swiss eGovernment program. The goal of eGovernment is to enable both businesses and citizens to carry out important transactions with the authorities electronically. The authorities in turn are called upon to modernize their business processes and communicate electronically with each other. The exchange of geodata is fostered by geo.admin.ch in a significant way.
