Population change in Switzerland 2012 – More Swiss and foreign nationals leave Switzerland

Neuchâtel, 11.10.2013 - (FSO) - Since 1999, migration has played the main role in the growth of the permanent resident population. However, in 2012 there was a decrease in net migration of 14% and a decrease in natural change of 3.9% compared with the previous year. The number of emigrations increased from 96,500 in 2011 to 103,900 (+7.7%). These are the main findings from the population and households statistics (STATPOP) for 2012 from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
