In 2023, the number of patients receiving an organ transplant rose by 20%
Neuchâtel, 28.11.2024 - In 2023, 661 people were admitted to a Swiss hospital to receive a solid organ transplant. Kidney grafts were by far the most frequent procedure (372 cases), followed by liver (138), lung (69) and heart (63) transplants. A record number of hospitalisations for transplants (+20% compared with the 2020–2022 average) were reported in 2023. Two-thirds of those receiving organs were male and a third female. According to the Federal Statistical Office's results, 14 children under the age of 15 were among recipients.
