Alcohol advertising in SAT.1 rebroadcasting to Switzerland

Biel-Bienne, 15.10.2002 - The German supervisory authority for SAT.1 has established that the rebroadcasting of SAT.1 programmes in Switzerland infringed the ban on alcohol advertising in force in Switzerland. The Swiss Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) can only intervene in the case of Swiss broadcasters; OFCOM therefore applied to the German regulator to investigate whether SAT.1 had infringed the Swiss television regulations. Equal treatment of Swiss broadcasters and rebroadcasters of programmes from another country has therefore been established.
