Federal Councillor Leuthard to participate in the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin
Bern, 01.07.2011 - Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard will travel to Berlin on 3 July 2011 to participate in the Petersberg Climate Dialogue on the invitation of the German and South African governments.
Five months before the 17th global climate conference is due to begin in Durban, South Africa, the German Environment Minister, Norbert Röttgen, and South African Minister for International Relations and Cooperation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, will chair the second "Petersberg Climate Dialogue". The event was staged for the first time by Germany in 2010. Around 35 government members from developing and industrialised countries have been invited to participate in the dialogue. The aim of the informal meeting is to advance the international climate negotiations.
Switzerland will be represented at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue by Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard. The Head of the DETEC will travel to Berlin on 3 July 2011. Discussions will centre on how to implement the resolutions passed at the 16th global climate summit in Cancun in late 2010 and on what must be done to ensure that the climate negotiations at the forthcoming climate summit in Durban do not fail.
