Statistics on health care institutions 2011: provisional figures – In 2011, Swiss hospitals treated 36,853 patients every day
Neuchâtel, 26.11.2012 - (FSO) - In 2011, 935,384 persons received medical care in a hospital, representing 1.36 million hospital stays in total. 12.4% of the Swiss population were hospitalised at least once in 2011. The majority of patients, i.e. 87.7%, were admitted to an acute care hospital. 5.3% of cases were admitted to a psychiatric department and 7% to other types of service, especially convalescence and geriatrics. These are some of the findings from the Health Establishment Statistics of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
