Switzerland condemns North Korean Rocket Launch

Bern, 12.12.2012 - Statement – Switzerland condemns the launch of a long-range rocket carried out by the Government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on 12 December 2012, an act in violation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1718 and 1874.

Switzerland deplores the fact that this rocket launch serves to fuel the tensions existing in the region. Switzerland calls upon all of those concerned to avoid any reaction likely to aggravate the situation, and encourages them to engage in dialogue and to act with moderation.

Switzerland appeals to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to abide by the restrictions contained in the UN Security Council Resolutions. It urges the DPRK to immediately suspend all activities linked to its ballistic missile programme, to completely, irrevocably, and verifiably abandon nuclear weapons and all existing military nuclear programmes, and to once again conclude a Safeguards Agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
