Switzerland applauds the rapprochement between Cuba and the United States
Bern, 18.12.2014 - The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) is very pleased about the announced measures to normalise relations between Cuba and the United States. It welcomes this historic step and congratulates the American President, Barack Obama, and the Cuban President, Raúl Castro, on this path-breaking decision.
Switzerland has carried out protecting power mandates both in Cuba and in the United States for several decades, and continues to make its good offices available within the framework of the rapprochement process between Washington and Havana.
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) hopes for a swift normalisation of relations between the United States and Cuba. It firmly believes that normalisation will benefit both countries and will contribute to stability and prosperity in the region.
